Adirondack Scenic Railroad
Twenty years after the old Adirondack was abandoned, the Adirondack Scenic Railroad has sent the first passenger train through to Lake Placid, NY. The train originated in Thendara (Old Forge, NY) in the early morning fog. Trailing the historic run was the Nehasane, a private business car, under restoration on the line. The sun would burn through the fog as the train departed and the day broke with nothing but clear skies and scenery that have not been viewed by rail passengers for two decades. The series of aerial photographs are through the skilled flying of Tom Payne, Payne's Air Service, and Inlet, NY. Arrival in Saranac Lake was mid-afternoon and finally Lake Placid an hour later. Let's hope this is the first of many excursions over this beautiful rail line! Find Best Western Saranac Lake lodging nearby.
