Fresh Pond School House
A one-room schoolhouse from the early 19th Century furnished with period furniture. In Riverhead is a one-room schoolhouse fitted with desks carved with initials by students of long ago. Quill pens rest beside inkwells. McGuffey readers line the bookshelves. A pail of water and a dipper once served all thirsty students. Several hickory sticks, and in a corner, a dunce cap and stool once warned the inattentive. The schoolhouse was built in Baiting Hollow in 1822. In 1918, having been replaced by a more modern school building, the then 97 year old structure was moved to the Sabat farm across the street, where it served as housing for migrant workers, and later as storage for fertilizer. In 1977 the family of the late George Sabat gave the building to the Riverhead Preservation and Landmarks Society, who moved it to its present location and restored it to its 1822 condition. Open by appointment only. Call 631-727-0407 for more information.

Vail-Leavitt Music Hall
the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall was the talk of the town when David F. Vail, a local lumber dealer, built it with the help of his son, George M. Vail. The interior of the Hall was embellished and frescoed by Mr. J.W. Flack, a well-known eastern Long Island interior decorator group dedicated to the restoration and revitalization of the Music Hall was formed in November of 1978. The first phase of the restoration began with the opening of the Music Hall Mini-Cine in the former Leavitt's Men's Shop in 1984. Theatre chairs, a stage curtain, two screens, two chandeliers, sconces and enough pile carpeting for the entire upstairs Music Hall was generously provided by the Freeport Theatre which was to be razed at this same time. A Laurel & Hardy Film Festival opened the Music Hall Mini-Cine in the spring of 1984 and the Mini-Cine continues to offer quality films to the public during the summer months of the period and an expert in the application of gold leaf.
