Erie Canal Museum
Designed to weigh canal boats for assessing a toll, this building is reputedly the only surviving structure of its kind in the country. The museum features a full-size canal boat replica; artifacts, maps and images detailing Erie Canal construction and early canal life; a penny-postcard arcade; changing exhibits; and the Syracuse Heritage Area Visitor Center. Everson Museum of Art

Onondaga Lake Park
Onondaga Lake Park extends 6 mi. along the eastern shore of Onondaga Lake. Features include a visitor center, dog park, skate park, marina, boat launch and athletic fields as well as the original Salt Spring and the Jesuit Well. The Salt Museum contains a replica of a 19th-century salt boiling block and other artifacts. Tram rides and inline skate and bicycle rentals are available mid-May through Columbus Day. Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park
The zoo displays domestic and exotic animals in simulated natural settings. Elephants are exhibited daily (weather permitting) and there is a Siberian tiger exhibit. The veterinary clinic and kitchen can be viewed through windows. Call (315) 435-8511 for more information.

Sainte Marie Among the Iroquois
This re-creation of a 17th-century Jesuit mission features costumed interpreters who demonstrate daily activities of the French missionaries, including cooking, spinning yarn, quilting, woodworking, blacksmithing and singing. An orientation center has exhibits about the cultural differences between the Iroquois and French peoples. The winter holidays are celebrated during Christmas Around the World.
