Farmers' Museum
A graceful stonewall frames the view of rooftops and chimneys that shape the 19th-century Village at The Farmers' Museum. The clang of the smithy's anvil mingles with the slide of the printing press, while a horse trots by smartly, pulling a two-wheeled cart. At the farmstead, oxen plow the earth; heritage-variety vegetables ripen in the sun; visitors learn to milk a cow by hand. Step back in time at this intimate living history landmark, where daily chores are carried out at the working farm while commerce flourishes in the Village. The seasons are celebrated in style -- Sleigh Rally in February, Maple Sugaring in March, Independence Day in July, Harvest Festival in September, and Candlelight Evening in December. Changing exhibitions in the big stone barn and exciting programs allow a hands-on, in-depth look at how we lived in the 19th century. This year, the museum features an exhibition on hops, an integral ingredient of beer -- a crop that once drove the economy of central New York. Open daily June – September 10am – 5pm.
