Statue of Liberty Monument
The Statue of Liberty Monument remains a world-famous symbol of freedom, hope and friendship. The monument, dedicated in 1886, was given to the United States as a gift from France. Located on Liberty Island in the New York Harbor, it was declared a national monument in 1924 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. Nearby Ellis Island, an immigration station for millions of people from 1892 until 1954, became a part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965.
